Love Stories

Jane & Sam

"First thing out of Jane’s mouth was, 'Yes, of course!' Second thing was, 'So is the dog still going to be there?'"

How We Met

“Hi there! How’s it going?” Ignited by a message on Bumble, kindled over two rapid-fire dates in New York City, and strengthened over a long-distance WeChat correspondence for over a month, Jane and Sam’s origin story is a tale of modern love. Sam was making the global circuit for work, traveling between Shenzhen, São Paulo, and New York City in a perpetual state of blurred jet lag. Jane was living solo in Long Island City, reluctantly convincing herself to give the whole online dating thing a shot. And it’s a good thing that she did, because the stars aligned, the algorithm struck gold, and the app connected two people from very different backgrounds, with very different interests, who fell in love.

The Proposal

Having designed the engagement ring together at Goldpoint, Jane knew THE question was coming sometime around spring/summer 2024, just not exactly how or when. Even though Jane prides herself in not letting much get past her, Sam always succeeds in surprising her in the most creative ways, and the proposal was no exception.

The week before Memorial Day weekend, Jane received an e-vite for their friends’ dog’s 10 th birthday party at a brewery in Greenpoint later that week. Since their friend group would 1,000% use a reason like that to get together, Jane didn’t give it a second thought. In fact, she was so convinced they were going to a dog’s birthday party that she insisted on stopping at a pet store in Long Island City for a gift on their way there. Sam happily obliged. With a toy shark in hand, Jane and Sam walked across the Pulaski Bridge to Greenpoint. Little did Jane know, family and friends were waiting a few doors down from the brewery, at the restaurant where Sam and Jane had their first date, eagerly awaiting their arrival for an engagement party.

When they got close to the brewery, Sam stopped Jane on the sidewalk to pop the question and reveal the truth about where they were actually going - not the brewery. First thing out of Jane’s mouth was, “Yes, of course!” Second thing was, “So is the dog still going to be there?”

The Forever After

Jane and Sam’s love for travel coupled with going to Portugal the day after getting engaged meant that having a destination wedding in Lisbon was a no-brainer. While the big white wedding will be in summer 2025, they officially tied the knot earlier this year at city hall in Manhattan, exchanging wedding bands from Goldpoint. In honor of Jane’s family heritage and cultural roots, the couple wore custom made-to-order outfits with Chinese embroidery for the civil ceremony and held a dinner reception afterwards at Café China in midtown.
