How We Met

Alan and Kate matched thanks to Kate’s Hinge app-savviness. She had first learned about him from her coworker/friend Jessie Mac, who was Alan’s roommate. Jesse had often shared stories about her single roommate and his various Hinge dating escapades. Realizing their proximity as neighbors, Kate was determined to meet this hilarious single guy and decided to adjust her Hinge dating profile radius to just one mile. Lo and behold, she “stumbled” upon Alan, whose profile picture included Jessie – this made for an easy conversation starter.

The Proposal & Ring

Alan flew to Italy to meet Kate at the end of a work trip and proposed with a custom blue hexagonal sapphire ring. The proposal happened in Lake di Garda in December 2023, on a hilltop overlooking the lake. The ring was designed by Kate's childhood best friend, Olivia Michaels, the co-founder of Goldpoint Jewelry Studio. Olivia and Kate attended Glenfield Middle School, Montclair High School, and Pratt Institute together. The choice of a sapphire was deeply meaningful to Kate, as her mother wears a blue sapphire wedding ring. The couple then flew to Ireland where they celebrated with Alan’s family and friends.
